What is the problem?

For years, residents on the Ashburton Estate and surrounding area have struggled to access decent reception for their mobile phones, with many reporting that they cannot call GPs for appointments and in some cases cannot even call 999 emergency services. It is a recognised ‘not spot’. This is completely unacceptable which is why Fleur launched a campaign after she was elected to bring together key stakeholders to bring the whole area back to the same excellent covereage of the surrounding areas.

What has Fleur done?

  • Formally wrote to Ofcom to raise this case with their leadership.
  • Launched a public survey gathering residents views and experiences and delivered letters to affected households.
  • Gathered hundreds of signatures for a petition calling for the authorities and telecoms companies to action to address this issue.
  • Held regular meetings with the leadership of Wandsworth Council, telecoms companies, housing associations and local councillors to agree a strategy to address the problem.
  • Met with the Chief Digital Officer for London to gather his expertise and secure his backing for the campaign.
  • In each of these meetings barriers have been discovered and new ways forward with new approaches being agreed by the major telecoms companies and the Council and two of the remaining barriers were overcome in late August 2023.

What comes next?

Fleur is hopeful a lasting solution is in finally within reach and she will not stop campaigning on this until residents can access acceptable levels of network coverage for their mobile phones.
