Thank you for your letter to Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos regarding Jimmy Carr’s ‘His Dark Material’.

We recognise and understand that many people and groups find the material in the show offensive. We want to listen carefully to those most directly affected, and we are therefore arranging to meet with organisations representing the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities to hear first-hand their perspectives and concerns.

We appreciate that stand-up comedy can often be highly provocative. However, we believe our members should be able to decide for themselves what they watch, and we seek to provide the tools for them to make informed choices. It is for this reason that ‘His Dark Material’ carries a BBFC 18 rating and clear advisories regarding the content.
